Missouri Lottery News: Steedman Woman, Sherry Akers, Calls $100,000 Prize ‘Big Blessing’

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (STL.News) – Sherry Akers says she typically doesn’t buy a lot of Scratchers, but with some extra cash and the new “I LOVE LUCY™” game out, she picked up four tickets for fun.  When those four tickets won her some money, she used the win to play four more.  After winning again, she decided to stick with her new lucky number of four, and this time one of her four tickets revealed a much larger prize – $100,000.

“I thought I won $5,000, and I was jumping around in the parking lot,” said the Steedman resident, as she recalled the day she and her family were in the car together scratching the ticket.  “We kept going and it was $10,000, $20,000 and then $100,000.  I was crying like a baby.”

Akers explained that her daughter had major surgery last year, which put much needed house renovations on hold. Now, she plans to use her prize money to fix up her house.

“My daughter is more important than my house,” she said.  “This has been a big blessing, and I owe it all to God.”

She even saved the penny she used to reveal her winning ticket to keep as a reminder.

Akers purchased the winning ticket at Short Stop, 4425 St. Road J, in Fulton.

“I LOVE LUCY™” is a $5 ticket that began on Feb. 25.  It offers more than $4.4 million in remaining prizes, including another top prize of $100,000.  An updated list of remaining Scratchers prizes can be found at MOLottery.com or by using the Missouri Lottery app.
