Franz Park Eatery Now Dark
St. Louis, MO/December 10, 2016 (STLRestaurant.News) – After just two years in business, the Manchester Public House at 6655 Manchester Ave. in St. Louis’ Dogtown has closed. Customers had no warning that the Franz Park eatery would be closing its door. Many learned of the closure upon arriving last week and finding the lights out and the doors locked. Even the MPH website and Facebook pages are still up and running, though neither has been updated since mid-November.
MPH had been a classic, old school American pub, probably best known for its casual, unrushed ambiance and their great beer selection, sold in pints and half-pints. The pub’s Beef Wellington Bites, Scotch eggs, and smoked brisket nachos were local favorites. But then the brisket, as well as the pulled pork, turkey breast, and chicken wings had been smoked in house by the 2012 S.L.O.B.S. overall champion, Chef Mario Mazzola.
Manchester Public House was also known for really good burgers. In fact, just last month, MPH had earned the #3 spot on our customer review-based Top 10 Best Burgers in St. Louis. (Only Cleveland-Heath, 106 North Main Street in Edwardsville, and Retreat Gastropub, 2 North Sarah Street, in the Central West End placed higher.)
It’s unclear why the popular bar closed its doors, or what will become of the place. For now, the lights are out, the doors are locked, and the telephone rings unanswered.
