ST. LOUIS, MO – July 5, 2026 (STL.News) – Homicide detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department are actively investigating a holiday weekend shooting in North St. Louis that left a 17-year-old boy dead and two other teenagers wounded.

The College Hill Shooting

According to initial police reports, the violent encounter took place over the Fourth of July holiday weekend in the city’s College Hill neighborhood.

Responding officers and emergency personnel confirmed that a 17-year-old male sustained fatal gunshot wounds and subsequently died from his injuries. Shortly after the shooting, two 16-year-old boys arrived at local hospitals via private vehicles, both suffering from gunshot wounds sustained during the same incident.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims, a potential motive, or any suspect descriptions. The investigation remains active, with homicide detectives leading the inquiry.

Broader Context of Weekend Violence

The fatal shooting in College Hill was part of a broader wave of holiday weekend violence across the north side, which kept emergency crews and law enforcement personnel active across multiple neighborhoods:

  • Ashland Avenue Shooting: Late Friday night, a separate shooting occurred on Ashland Avenue, leaving a man in critical condition. He was transported to an area hospital, where he continues to fight for his life.
  • Newstead & Farlin Incident: On Saturday evening, July 4, around 8:30 p.m., gunfire broke out near the intersection of North Newstead Avenue and Farlin Avenue. Two additional teenagers were shot and injured during this incident, adding to the holiday weekend’s toll on local youth.
  • Curfew Enforcement: The uptick in holiday weekend activity coincided with heightened police presence and stricter enforcement of the downtown youth curfew, resulting in the detention of two teenagers and citations issued to their parents at the weekend’s kickoff.

Community Reactions and Youth Violence Statistics

The tragedy reflects a continuing and alarming trend of gun violence impacting minors in the city. Local crime data tracking shows that dozens of teenagers aged 17 or younger have been victims of shootings in St. Louis since the start of the year.

The recurring violence has sparked renewed calls for systemic intervention from neighborhood leaders and grassroots organizations. Activists, including representatives from groups like Starting Over Evolution, have consistently pushed for city officials to collaborate more closely with community leaders to establish positive, structured alternatives for local youth before the summer months peak.

Public Request for Information

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department urges anyone with information regarding the College Hill shooting or the other weekend incidents to contact the Homicide Division directly at 314-444-5371.

To remain completely anonymous and potentially qualify for a cash reward, individuals can contact CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
