US Customs and Border Patrol News: Yuma Border Patrol Apprehends Narcotics Smugglers with USMC Assistance

YUMA, AZ (STL.News) – Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended a group of illegal aliens who were trafficking bundles of marijuana in eastern Yuma County Tuesday.

Wellton Station Border Patrol agents apprehended six Mexican nationals and four Honduran nationals Tuesday night as they attempted to smuggle bundles of marijuana through the desert east of Dateland, Arizona.  Members of the United States Marine Corps, supporting Border Patrol operations, were performing surveillance in the area when they first spotted the group.  The Marines then directed the agents to the group so they could be apprehended.

The marijuana weighed approximately 286 pounds and is valued at more than $143,000.  The 10 subjects will be charged with drug smuggling and immigration’s violations.

The Marines are in Yuma as part of a temporary detail, in order to assist with the Border Patrol’s observation and detection duties.
