Washington, DC (STL.News) The US Department of State released the following statement today:

Deputy Assistant Secretary Thomas DiNanno will travel to The Hague, Netherlands, November 23-27, 2019. On November 25, he will deliver the U.S. National Statement at the Twenty-Fourth Session of the Conference of the States Parties at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to address the importance of preventing and deterring the spread and use of chemical weapons; raising the cost of non-compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention; and to emphasize the need to hold accountable those who use chemical weapons.

Deputy Assistant Secretary DiNanno will meet with the OPCW Director-General Fernando Arias and other Heads of Delegations to discuss key U.S. policy priorities relevant to chemical weapons; and share U.S. views on addressing future CW-related threats and challenges by implementing new initiatives such as adding the deadly ‘novichok’ nerve agents to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) Annex on Chemicals; and supporting the independent and impartial work of the OPCW to preserve the global norm against the use of chemical weapons.
