Michigan Lottery: Wayne County Man Wins $5,000 a Week for Life

Wayne County Man Wins $5,000 a Week for Life Playing the Michigan Lottery’s Cash For Life Instant Game

MI (STL.News) A Wayne County man is still trying to pick his jaw up off the floor after winning $5,000 a week for life playing the Michigan Lottery’s Cash For Life instant game.

The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his winning ticket at Allways Gas, located at 125 South Merriman Road in Westland.

“I asked the clerk for a $10 Cash For Life ticket and when he pulled it, it fell on the floor,” said the player. “He handed it to me and said: ‘This is going to be a winner.’ Boy, was he right.

“I scratched the ticket when I got home and in the third spot, I saw letters. My jaw hit the floor, and I haven’t been able to pick it up since.”

The 42-year-old player visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. He chose to accept his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $5.5 million rather than annual payments of $260,000 for 20 years or life, whichever is greater.

With his winnings, he plans to pay bills, buy a new home and then invest the remainder.

“It’s a great feeling to know I can live comfortably, take care of my kids, and worry a whole lot less,” the player said.

Players have won more than $14 million playing $5,000 a Week Cash For Life, which launched in July. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $5,000 a week for life. More than $51 million in prizes remain, including two $5,000 a week for life prizes and nine $2,000 prizes.

Lottery instant games may be purchased at 10,500 retailers across the state.
