PORTSMOUTH, N.H | Ready to fight: Cory Booker shows his tough side to voters

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Cory Booker is known as the sunny candidate in the crowded Democratic presidential primary, but he’s also trying to play the fighter.

The New Jersey senator chided “people who think my philosophy is weak” and those in his party who would simply “fight fire with fire” during a recent trip to New Hampshire. Booker’s attempt to be both the nation’s healer and warrior played well in the pivotal early-voting state.

But it’s still not clear whether a Democratic electorate angered by President Donald Trump’s policies will respond to Booker’s vow that he can wage battles with the power of love. His rivals in the presidential primary are winning plaudits of their own from voters for their willingness to throw more direct punches at Trump.
