Robert Schaaf is a U.S. State Senator representing the 34th District of Buchanan and Platte Counties in Missouri. Senator Rob Schaaf was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1957. After moving to St. Joseph as a child, he attended Central High School. Schaaf graduated from Central High School in 1975 and then went on to attend Missouri Western State College to study mathematics. He graduated from Missouri Western State College in 1979 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematics. Shortly after, Schaaf enrolled in medical school at the St. Louis University School of Medicine. He went on to earn his M.D in 1983. Two years later, Schaaf began his career as a family physician in northwestern Missouri.
Legislative History of Rob Schaaf
Senator Schaaf first began his legislative career when he was elected to represent the 28th District of Buchanan and Andrew Counties in the Missouri State House of Representatives. After mounting three successful reelection bids, Schaaf solidified himself as a knowledgeable legislator who understood the complicated world of health care, health insurance, patient well-being, and physician best practices. Schaaf maximized his time in the Missouri State House of Representatives as a member of the Committee on Health Care Policy, the Budget Committee, and the Appropriations Committee on Health, Mental Health, and Social Services, in addition to serving as the Chairman of the Committee on Healthcare Transformation. After a successful four-term tenure in the Missouri State House of Representatives, Schaaf launched a campaign for the U.S. Missouri State Senate. He won his first election in 2010 to represent the 34th Senatorial District of Missouri, going on to win reelection in 2014.
Expanding on his active participation in the Missouri State House of Representatives, Senator Schaaf is currently a member of the Appropriations Committee, the Committee on Small Business and Industry, the Joint Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect, the Commission on the Special Health, Psychological and Social Needs of Minority Older Individuals, the Missouri Head Injury Advisory Council, the Suicide Prevention Advisory Committee, and the Governors’ Council on Physical Fitness and Health. In addition, Senator Schaaf serves as the Chairman of the Committee on Health and Pensions and the Joint Committee on Public Employee Retirement.

In addition to his legislative duties, Senator Schaaf currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Missouri Doctors Mutual Insurance Company, a member of the St. Joseph Area Chamber of Commerce, a member and former president of the Buchanan County Medical Society, a member of the Missouri Pilots Association, and a Board member of the Missouri State Medical Foundation.
Senator Schaaf resides in St. Joseph with his wife, Deborah, and their two children. Schaaf will continue to serve his second term representing the 34th Senatorial District of Missouri with the solid foundation he has built through his experience as a family physician, a small business owner, a member of the Missouri State House of Representatives, and a member of the Missouri State Senate. He will continue to be looked towards for his expertise in public health and health insurance practices by his colleagues in the Senate and the constituents he represents passionately.
