ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO/May 25, 2026 (STL.News) — An early morning holiday weekend gathering turned chaotic in North St. Louis County when gunfire erupted into a crowd, leaving six young people with gunshot wounds and two others injured during the ensuing panic.

The St. Louis County Police Department has launched an intensive investigation into the mass casualty shooting, which drew a massive emergency response to a commercial corridor.

Late-Night Gathering Devastated by Gunfire

The violent incident unfolded on Sunday, May 24, 2026. Uniformed patrol officers from the St. Louis County Police Department responded at approximately 1:25 a.m. following emergency dispatches reporting an active assault in progress within the 11800 block of West Florissant Avenue.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement personnel encountered a large, dense crowd of older adolescents. According to preliminary reports from criminal investigators, an unidentified suspect or suspects suddenly unleashed a volley of bullets directly into the gathering. The rapid gunfire triggered immediate panic as dozens of bystanders scrambled for cover across parking lots and adjacent properties.

Breakdown of Casualties and Injuries

Emergency medical technicians and secondary police units rushed to the perimeter to establish triage and render immediate first aid. In total, eight victims were identified following the assault:

  • Direct Gunshot Wounds: Six individuals were struck by flying projectiles. They were rapidly transported by both emergency medical vehicles and private transports to regional hospitals. Medical personnel have confirmed that all gunshot injuries are currently considered non-life-threatening.

  • Secondary Traumatic Injuries: Two additional individuals required medical assessment and treatment for physical injuries sustained during the immediate aftermath of the shooting, likely caused by being trampled or falling as the crowd violently dispersed to escape the gunfire.

  • Age Demographics: Police officials confirmed that the scope of the violence was entirely concentrated among older teens, with all eight injured victims ranging between 17 and 19 years of age.

Task Force Mobilizes for Evidence Collection

The St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons has taken complete command of the active investigation. Detectives and crime scene technicians spent hours systematically processing the crime scene, collecting multiple spent shell casings, mapping ballistic trajectories, and looking for physical evidence left behind by the shooter.

A major component of the initial phase of the investigation involves a comprehensive canvass of the 11800 block of West Florissant Avenue. Investigators are actively contacting local business owners to secure exterior digital surveillance footage that may have captured the suspect vehicle, the shooter, or the moments leading up to the initial confrontation.

As of Monday morning, no suspects have been publicly identified, authorities have formally released no descriptions, and no arrests have been made. A specific motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

Regional Appeal for Witness Cooperation

Because a substantial crowd was physically present on West Florissant Avenue when the shooting began, detectives firmly believe that multiple individuals possess direct knowledge of the perpetrator. Law enforcement is strongly encouraging witnesses—or anyone who may have captured cell phone video footage of the gathering or the shooting—to come forward.

Anyone holding relevant information is urged to contact the St. Louis County Police Department directly at 636-529-8210. To maintain absolute anonymity and remain eligible for a substantial cash reward, individuals can submit tips directly through CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS (8477).
