Michael Bryson, of the 2300 block of Fairy Bell Drive in Jennings, Missouri, was charged Tuesday, May 26, 2026, by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office
JENNINGS, MO/May 28, 2026 (STL.News) A St. Louis County prosecutor has charged an 18-year-old Jennings man with first-degree assault and armed criminal action in connection with an April 30 shooting near Jennings Station Road.
Michael Bryson, of the 2300 block of Fairy Bell Drive in Jennings, Missouri, was charged Tuesday, May 26, 2026, by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. He is being held on a $200,000 cash-only bond with no 10% option. Charges are merely accusations, and Bryson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
According to the probable cause statement, officers responded to the area of Park Lane and Jennings Station Road on April 30 following a ShotSpotter activation. Shortly after, they received a call reporting a shooting victim. Arriving officers found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the right bicep. The victim described being shot by an unknown Black male.
Officers recovered and reviewed surveillance footage capturing the shooting. They then obtained additional footage from a nearby store that Bryson had visited prior to the incident. A financial transaction Bryson made at the store allowed investigators to obtain his credit and debit card information, which led to further surveillance footage showing him frequenting the location. That footage also revealed his vehicle and behavioral patterns at the store.
Detectives canvassed the surrounding area for additional surveillance footage, which ultimately led them to Bryson’s residence. Officers executed a search warrant at the home and recovered clothing matching what the suspect wore during the shooting. Investigators also noted a recognizable scar visible on the suspect in the surveillance footage, which was confirmed when Bryson was booked into custody.
The investigation is being led by St. Louis County Police Department officers assigned to the City of Jennings Precinct.
Violence Continues to Shape St. Louis’s National Image
The shooting is one of many gun violence incidents that have kept the greater St. Louis region among the most violent metros in the United States in recent years. National crime rankings have consistently placed St. Louis near or at the top for violent crime rates, a distinction that civic and business leaders say undermines economic development, population retention, and the city’s broader efforts to reverse a decades-long narrative of urban decline.
