HOT TICKET, OLIVE + OAK: SHARING A COMMON BOND
ST. LOUIS, MO: (STLRestaurant.News) – Olive + Oak – It’s only been four months since it opened its doors, but it appears that Olive + Oak in Webster Groves has already become the hot ticket in town. Just try getting a reservation! It is the first restaurant for Co-Owners Mark Hinkle, a St. Louis native and most recently the GM at Annie Gunn’s, and his business partner, Greg Ortyl, who has a background is in telecoms.
The two share a common bond that can never be broken. Both men lost young sons, Oliver Hinkle and Oakes Ortyl, to congenital heart defects at a very early age. The restaurant was named in their honor as a way of keeping their names alive and continuing to raise awareness. You will find a wall of black-and-white photos of the families loving children adorning a wall near the kitchen.
Former Annie Gunn’s Executive Sous Chef, Jesse Mendica, and Hinkle’s former colleague is running the kitchen. Also on board are Kevin Pellegrino, most recently from Five Bistro, and Joe Biondo of BC’s Kitchen. Pastry Chef, Britt Simpson, offers up the appealing desserts on the menu. This ‘ingredient-driven American cuisine’ restaurant, seats 85 and is open for dinner daily. The 2,600-square-foot space is a former remodeled boutique with high ceilings and a rustic, tranquil elegance. Polished white subway tiles with gray-blue tufted banquettes, and rustic, light-colored wood tables adorn the room, along with two modern tree sculptures made of copper olive and oak leaves. And for outdoor lovers, the patio awaits.
From the seafood appetizers to the prime strip steak, braised pork shoulder, pan-roasted catfish, and many other entrees, you won’t be disappointed. Olive + Oak, at 102 West Lockwood Avenue, is a perfect fit for the quaint Webster Groves community, and a place you’ll definitely want to visit.
