TEL AVIV, June 15 (STL.News) – El Al Israel Airlines announced a new agreement on Monday to install Elon Musk’s Starlink high-speed internet service across its entire fleet starting next year.

This move aims to upgrade the passenger experience by providing reliable connectivity on both short and long-haul flights.

The airline confirmed that the SpaceX-powered service will be available to travelers without any additional cost. Passengers will be able to stream live content, work, and communicate during their journeys as the system supports hundreds of simultaneous users per aircraft. This update arrives as global carriers increasingly view high-speed Wi-Fi as a critical feature for attracting premium customers.

“The integration of Starlink technology into El Al aircraft is a significant step forward, allowing customers to stay connected in the air, enjoy live streaming and continue to work and communicate smoothly and without interruption,” said El Al Chief Executive Levy Halevy.

El Al currently operates a growing fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which serve its long-haul routes. The airline also maintains pending orders for Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to support its expanding network across Europe. By incorporating satellite technology, the carrier expects to maintain its competitive edge as international travel dynamics shift.

Starlink utilizes a network of low-Earth-orbit satellites, providing speeds significantly higher than traditional geostationary systems. This technical advantage has made the service a popular choice for airlines, with 11 new aviation customers signing on during 2026 alone.

The national carrier has experienced a period of limited competition since October 2023, which contributed to a rise in recent profits. While many international airlines suspended operations in the region, the market is preparing for the return of major carriers. For instance, Delta and United have indicated plans to resume service to Tel Aviv this September. As foreign competition returns, El Al’s investment in enhanced digital infrastructure positions the airline to better meet passenger expectations in an evolving travel landscape.
