ORYOL, Russia, June 14 (STL.News) – One person was killed and nine others were injured on Sunday after a Ukrainian drone strike hit a high-rise residential apartment building in the Russian city of Oryol, located south of Moscow. The regional governor confirmed the casualties following the aerial incident in the city of approximately 300,000 residents.
Oryol Regional Governor Andrei Klychkov published photographs showing blown-out and blackened windows spanning several stories of the affected building. The images revealed significant structural damage to the residential complex, though emergency services and law enforcement officials quickly secured the site to begin necessary operations.
“The situation was under the control of emergency services and law enforcement, and cleanup operations were ongoing,” Klychkov stated regarding the immediate aftermath of the strike.
This incident occurred as part of a broader expansion of deep-strike drone campaigns throughout the region. While Ukraine has primarily focused these operations on military installations, logistics hubs, and energy infrastructure, this specific strike resulted in rare civilian casualties for the area.
In addition to the strike in Oryol, officials confirmed a simultaneous attack on a major oil storage facility in Yaroslavl, situated 700 kilometers from the border. Local authorities continue to manage the cleanup at the residential site while maintaining a presence at the scene to assist those impacted by the blast. Medical and psychological assistance is currently being provided to the nine individuals who sustained injuries during the drone strike.
