ST LOUIS, MO/January 19, 2017 (STL.News) Wings & Football – The word synonymous comes to mind when talking about Super Bowl and Chicken Wings…it’s almost like they were made to go together. Last year, the National Chicken Council released its annual “Wings Report” estimating that Americans consumed close to 1.3 billion, or 162.5 million pounds of chicken wings and that was a 37.5 million wing increase from Super Bowl 2015.
Super Bowl Sunday is the second biggest eating day of the year after Thanksgiving and evidently, chicken wings happen to be America’s favorite party food. Can you even fathom a Super Bowl Sunday without chicken wings? Every year there are those who worry that there will be a chicken wing shortage, but never fear… according to the USDA there will be plenty of coveted wings in 2017.
In the 60’s and 70’s, cooking the whole bird was a fashionable thing to do, but by the 80’s, U.S. consumers began desiring boneless-skinless breast meat, so wings became an inexpensive spin-off for chicken manufacturers. It didn’t take long for restaurants and bars to realize they would be able to charge low prices for this reasonable low-cost protein. That along with the fact that beer sales would soar when customers munched away on the spicy/salty nature of the wing sauce made them more popular than ever.
Around that same time, modern technology was making it easier for sports bars to have multiple TVs and satellite dishes. What’s the most popular sporting event to watch with friends in bars? American’s love their football. Wings were cheap to buy, easy to share in a group setting and paired perfectly with a pitcher of beer. The rest is history.
Restaurants and bars alike are preparing for the big day. On Sunday, February 5, millions of Americans will be glued to TV screens cheering on their favorite team for Super Bowl LI. Krieger’s Hometown Sports Barin Ballwin is just one of the places that hope you’ll be watching the big game in front of one of their 44 flat screen TV’s, but if not, they’ve got you covered when it comes to wings.
When you purchase 50 regular chicken wings they’ll throw in an extra 10 for free. You heard it right….an extra 10 for free! If you’re planning your own Super Bowl party, then you’ll definitely want to pre-order Krieger’s wings for carry out. And if you’re a guest invited to a friend’s Super Bowl party, bring along some of Krieger’s wings and you’ll be everybody’s best friend. It’s best to pre-order either online or by calling in.
Wherever you end up this Super Bowl Sunday, have fun, be safe and may the best team win!
