US State Department: Slovenia Statehood Day

Washington, DC (STL.News) Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken released the following statement:

On behalf of the Government of the United States of America, I extend congratulations to all Slovenian people on this historic anniversary of your Statehood Day.

Since gaining independence three decades ago, Slovenia has emerged as a vibrant democracy and regional leader in promoting security and Euro-Atlantic integration in the Western Balkans.  Slovenia plays a key role in bolstering stability through our close bilateral defense relationship, participation in peacekeeping missions, and unwavering support of NATO.

The United States and Slovenia continue to build upon our bilateral trade and investment ties, academic partnerships, and collaboration on innovative advances in science and technology.  We also look forward to working closely with Slovenia when it assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on July 1 as part of our efforts to revitalize and raise the level of ambition of the U.S.-EU partnership.

I send best wishes on this 30th Slovenian Statehood Day, and I look forward to expanding our close partnership based on our shared commitments to democracy and prosperity.
