Evolution of a Neighborhood Favorite – Turtle Creek Pub & Grill
O’Fallon, MO: (STLRestaurant.News) – One of O’Fallon, Missouri’s newest restaurants has rapidly become a local favorite, but it wasn’t always that way. Turtle Creek Pub (128 Triad Center West, off Mexico Road) was established in 2014 in the footprint of the old Mike’s Pizza and Fortel’s Pizza Den. It operated for a little over a year, struggling the whole while to find its identity. Then in July of 2015, everything changed. New owners took over, rebranding the central O’Fallon eatery as Turtle Creek Pub & Grill. They also tapped Executive Chef Mark Rushing to create a menu of upscale, family-friendly pub food. It didn’t take long for the neighborhood to notice the changes.
The new Turtle Creek has a family-friendly sports bar feel with a menu offering upscale pub food. There are a variety of choices that are purposefully delicious and fun. You’ll find everything from fried pickles and pub chips to Angus beef burgers, creative sandwiches, and wraps. You’ll also find pub favorites like crispy chicken wings, cheesy nachos, and yes, fresh pizza. But the menu doesn’t stop with bar fare. There are also more refined choices like Blackened Mahi Mahi, Sausage Penne Rigate with housemade marinara, and perfectly cooked steak. The Buffalo Bread appetizer is a customer favorite. It’s garlic-cheese French bread that’s been taken to the next level by adding a layer of TC’s buffalo chicken spread!
Since this is a pub, the bar is well stocked. Customers will find all of their AB favorites on draft, along with O’Fallon 5 day IPA and Shock Top, plus seven seasonal varieties. There’s also a large selection of bottled beer, including imports and domestics—both mainstream labels and craft brews. Their cocktail and martini selection are also very popular. Some specialties include the BLT (Bulleit Bourbon, lime and tonic), the Royal Washington Apple (Crown Royal Regal Apple and cranberry juice) and the Cheesecake Martini (Smirnoff Summer Strawberry Sorbet Light, Smirnoff Vanilla, and a splash of cranberry juice). TC’s bartenders have been recognized for their outstanding service, so they can make pretty much anything you can dream up.
Turtle Creek Pub & Grill also offers a nice kids’ menu and dessert specials. The dessert menu features a different cream pie every week and Chef Mark’s signature bread pudding, which is served warm with bourbon glaze sauce and ice cream.
Since Melissa Craig and Todd Traylor bought the restaurant in 2015, Turtle Creek Pub & Grill has become a neighborhood gathering place. The friendly staff makes sure this is the kind of place “where everybody knows your name.” And with nine television screens, you can watch “the game” from every table! The owners are Green Bay Packers fans, so TC is a great place for “cheeseheads” to hang out on game day, but Traylor says fans of every team are welcome to come and enjoy watching their favorites play. Turtle Creek has become a popular game night hangout for Blues and Cardinals fans too. That’s by design. Traylor says they wanted the restaurant to become the go-to place to meet friends, watch a game, enjoy live music, and relax over a great meal.
It looks like they’re doing just that. Last year (2015) Turtle Creek Pub & Grill won seven reader’s choice awards, including best sports bar, best neighborhood bar, and best place for a first date in the St. Charles area. They’re on their way to winning more awards this year.
In the neighborly way Turtle Creek has conducted business since day one, the pub & grill is participating in today’s “Tables for Tuder” fundraiser. Thirty-seven-year-old Hazelwood police officer Craig Tudor was paralyzed in August when his police cruiser was struck by another car. Officer Tudor had been responding to an emergency call at the time. Tudor is currently being treated at the same Colorado facility that treated Ballwin Officer Mike Flamion. A GoFundMe page set up to help with the cost of Tudor’s recovery and financial assistance for his family has raised $32,000 of its $50,000 goal.
Turtle Creek Pub & Grill is one of the more than 80 local restaurants donating part of their sales to help out. TCPG will give 20 percent of today’s proceeds to benefit Officer Tudor and his family.
