Tips on Learning Tools in WordPress Like a Pro

The world’s most popular open source content management system, WordPress, is a great choice for many.  It gives a great bold look and offers highly customized blogs without needing to learn years and years of coding. There are literally millions of websites making money because of the existence of WordPress.  Learning WordPress is really easy, it just needs a few hours of concentration everyday and you’ll be ready to go in no time.  With these tips on WordPress to help you, you won’t need anything else to become a WordPress pro!

1. WordPress Theme = Must Complement Your Blog

When choosing a WordPress theme, you need to know what the nature of your blog is in order to choose the best theme for it.  If your blog is for business needs, a premium theme will probably be a better option as it contains much more features and the design itself is a lot more professional.  There are thousands of themes available for WordPress, both free and premium. We recommend you install the premium themes from:

  • WooThemes
  • Elegant Themes
  • Themify

Make sure you choose a theme that suits the business style, taste and its goals.  It must match the business’ taste, not your own personal taste.  Always keep in mind that how the website looks is what the viewer judges the company upon.  You’ll also be able to find more guidance in general in this blog post.

2. Change the Permalink Structure

Before you get confused, the permalink is the web address that’s assigned to every post and page you publish, basically the URL.  The default WordPress permalink needs slight development, it’s a bit ugly and it doesn’t inform the viewer anything.  It usually looks like this: This structure doesn’t give any useful information about the content/title of the page.  Is it about kidnappers or is it a cookie recipe?  We’ll never know!  You can change the permalink structure to create a more beneficial experience for the user.  If your website is brand new, here’s a quick way to change WordPress permalinks:

  1. Log in as an Administrator
  2. From the menu on the left-hand side of the screen, click on ‘Settings’, then ‘Permalinks’
  3. Tick off the radio button next to your preferred format (as you click through the various options, the information in the Custom Structure text box changes)
  4. When you’re satisfied, click on ‘Save Changes’

3. Install an SEO Plugin

There are no built-in SEO settings with WordPress but you can install a dedicated plugin to give you that feature.  We recommend two to give you the greatest job you’d want.  If you’re new to SEO, you can start with ‘All in One SEO Pack’. This one helps with people who have little or no knowledge on SEO and want a unique plugin. Yoast SEO is another plugin that has great features in both the free version and the premium version.  It’s easy to use for new users and it’s great for those who want to develop their SEO skills using it.
