TWIN OAKS, MO (STL.News) Some might believe that the Super Bowl, World Cup, NBA Finals, Ryder Cup, Wimbledon, Kentucky Derby, Stanley Cup Finals, WrestleMania, Daytona 500 and World Series are the most spectacular sports event around…but guess what? Not so!
The Final Four is still one of the highest-rated sporting events of the year! It may not have the worldwide reach of the Super Bowl or some of the other big name sport events, but the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament has an appeal that extends well beyond many of the major sports leagues’ playoffs and championship series.
And, lucky for fans, it’s that time of year again. March Madness begins on March 13, and whether you’re in simply for the love of the game or to win big bucks, March Madness is one of the most anticipated sporting event in the United States with the first Thursday and Friday of March Madness considered the two most entertaining days on the sports calendar.
Favorites to win it all this year include the usual suspects like Kansas, Duke, Villanova, North Carolina, and Michigan State, but several schools not typically thought of as basketball schools also have a real shot at the national title: Virginia, Xavier, Purdue, and dangerous Oklahoma, which features Player of the Year favorite Trae Young. And don’t count out Gonzaga or Kentucky, who might be clicking at the ideal time of the season.
What they call the “Big Dance” opens this year in Dayton, OH with the First Four. The winners of those games will slot into the 64-team field. Then, the four regions play over two consecutive weekends to determine a representative to send to the Final Four — held this year at the 72,000-seat Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.
