SHAKE SHACK – SHAKING IT UP IN THE CWE

SHAKE SHACK COMING TO TOWN – CWE

ST. LOUIS, MO: (STLRestaurant.News) – Just as St. Louisans’ are getting used to the idea of having an IKEA in the Central West End, another highly anticipated business is coming to the Gateway city. Shake Shack is a wildly popular burger place out of New York that has been a trendy tourist attraction for visitors since it opened 10 years ago. Today, Shake Shack has locations in London, Atlanta, Boston, Las Vegas, and now it’s coming here. The high end burger joint is one of the hottest restaurant concepts and the creation of home town St. Louisan, Danny Meyer.

The menu will consist of burgers, grilled hot-dogs, crinkle cut fries and frozen yogurt. The trendy restaurant will anchor Koman Group’s $31 million Central West End development. The new 6 story building at 32 N. Euclid Ave. will also include retail, offices and apartments. This will be the chains’ first location in Missouri, and is expected to open sometime next year.

NEWK'S COMING TO THE MIDWEST

NEWK’S EATERY – STAND OUT FAST FOOD CHAIN

ST. LOUIS, MO: (STLRestaurant.News) – Another fast-casual food chain is eyeing a move to the St. Louis market. Newk’s Eatery, which is known for their variety of made-from-scratch sandwiches, pizzas and other cafe items, is targeting the area for franchise development.  If you’re not familiar with the name, you might be familiar with the Newcomb family, the same team behind McAlister’s Deli, which was sold to Roark Capital in 2005. They opened Newk’s in 2004.  In 2014, Nation’s Restaurant News estimated Newk’s revenue at $141.6 million.

What makes it stand out from its competitors?  This “second-generation” establishment cites it’s all fresh food, nearly full-service hospitality and open kitchen concept as the reason.  There are currently 98 Newk’s locations in 13 states, but so far, the closest one to St. Louis is in Springfield, MO.  Possible future area locations could be downtown, Brentwood, Richmond Heights, Chesterfield, Clayton and Creve Coeur. The Mississippi-based company has plans to add 15 to 18 Newk’s in the St. Louis region over the next five to six years.
