Background of Missouri State Senator, Paul Wieland
Paul Wieland is a Republican U.S. State Senator representing the 22nd District of Jefferson County in Missouri. Born in 1962, Wieland grew up in Jefferson County, Missouri. In 1981, he graduated from St. Pius X High School in Festus, Missouri and subsequently went to work in his family’s auto parts business. Shortly thereafter, he opened his own small business. He later attended Benedictine College, the University of Missouri – St. Louis, and the University of Missouri – Columbia. Senator Wieland was first elected to public office in 1995 when he represented the 101st District in the Missouri State House of Representatives. After an extended hiatus from public office, he ran again to represent the 102nd District in the Missouri State House of Representatives in 2010, defeating Democratic candidate Jeff Roorda. Two years later, he ran to represent the 112th District in the Missouri State House of Representatives and again beat out Democratic candidate Daniel E. James. He served in this position until 2014, when he mounted a run for the Missouri State Senate. Wieland took office in 2014 to represent the 22nd Senatorial District in Missouri.

Senator Wieland is an active member in the Missouri State Senate. Currently, he serves as a member of the Committee on Economic Development, the Committee on Professional Registration, the Committee on Seniors, Families, and Children, and the Joint Committee on Education. In addition, he serves as the Chairman of the Committee on Insurance and Banking and as Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Small Business and Industry. Senator Wieland has sponsored a number of bills relating to insurance policy and procedures, health concerns for pregnant women, law enforcement protections, and the repeal of the death penalty in the state of Missouri.
Senator Wieland’s background working in a family-owned business, owning a small business, and as a member of the Missouri State House of Representatives, has allowed him to continue a successful career as a state-wide politician. By representing several different districts, Senator Wieland has been able to understand the needs, wants, and concerns of different demographics of citizens living in Missouri. His successful reelection bids in the Missouri State House of Representatives are a prime example of his popularity among his constituents.
Currently, Senator Wieland resides in Imperial, Missouri with his wife, Terri. Outside of his legislative duties, Senator Wieland is an active participant in his civilian community life. Senator Wieland owns and operates Wieland Insurance Group, LLC and founded the Jeffco Business Network in Jefferson County. Along with his wife, Terri, he founded and published The Edition monthly newspaper and the Jefferson County Business Journal. Senator Wieland is also a member of his local parish, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in addition to being a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Going back to his roots as a student at St. Pius X High School, Senator Wieland serves on the advisory board.
Senator Wieland’s active participation in the community in which he serves allows him to consistently gauge the sentiment among his constituents so that he can effectively advocate for them in the Missouri State Senate.
