Mayanmar – State of Emergency as a military coup is taking place and being monitored by the US

(STL.News) Myanmar’s military seized power on Monday in a coup against the democratically elected government of Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, who was detained along with other leaders of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party in early morning raids.

Myanmar is located in Southeast Asia borded by Bangladesh and India to the northwest, China to the northeast, Laos and Thailand to the east and southeast with Andamn Sea and Bay of Bengai to its south and southwest.  It is the largest county in Mainland Southeast Asia and is ranked 10th largest in Asia by area.  2017 population is estimated at 54 million.  Capital city is Naypyidaw with the largest city being Yangon (Rangoon).
