Nothing Muddy About The Mud House

ST. LOUIS, MO: (STLRestaurant.News) – Tucked away on one of the best neighborhood streets for walking and seeing great old architecture, is an eclectic little restaurant called The Mud House, at 2101 Cherokee Street.  Whether you’re in that area to go to “Antique Row,” or head farther west to the artsy section filled with progressive galleries and cute boutiques, stopping by The Mud House should be a must.

This charming little spot, described by customers as a hip place with a great vibe, is known to serve up the best breakfasts in town.  They’re biscuits and gravy are to die for.  Both the banana and walnut, and lemon and blackberry French toast are beyond delicious.  And The Mud Slinger, a concoction of roasted potatoes, cheddar, onion, veggie black bean chili, and two sunny eggs served on top, is an all-time favorite.  For health conscious folks, there’s also the Spicy Tofu Scramble made of tofu with peppers, roasted tomatoes and roasted mushrooms served with crustini.

And coffee enthusiasts won’t be disappointed.  They’ll love the rotating cast of coffees. Whether you try the amazing Rosemary-Honey Latte, the Lavender-Mocha Latte, a cafe au lait, or simply a cup of brewed coffee or espresso, their coffee is always phenomenal.  They also have a nice selection of teas.

You can expect a friendly staff in a relaxed, cozy coffeehouse atmosphere.  You order at the counter, but if you’re in a hurry, there’s a coffee counter set up outside where you can grab a latte and a muffin and be on your way.

Their lunch menu is no less interesting.  Some examples are The Nomad, hot Geisert ham & swiss, dijonaise, and homemade garlic dill pickles on a pretzel bun, The Goat- Goat cheese spread or greens, cucumbers, apricot chutney on toasted wheat, or a Good Ol’ Grilled Cheese with white cheddar, asiago & Swiss served on Miller 5-grain.

Opened in 2008, The Mud House/ Coffee & Kitchen, ranks #48 out of 2,295 St Louis Restaurants on TripAdvisor.  If you find a long line at times…it’ll be worth your wait.
