Missouri News: Update – Arrest made in assault with a weapon investigation in Columbia, 2900 block of Leeway Drive on Aug. 22

COLUMBIA, MO – UPDATE – Derrick Smith, 30, was arrested in Memphis, Tennessee at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 23 by Memphis Police.  Smith is currently in the Shelby, Tennessee County jail on Boone County Warrants for 1st Degree Felony Assault and Armed Criminal Action and felony warrants originating from the state of Tennessee.

The Columbia Police Department extends their thanks to Memphis Police for assisting in locating and arresting the wanted individual from Columbia.

Original release – Around 6 p.m. on August 22, Columbia police responded to a report of shots heard in the 2900 block of Leeway Drive.  An investigation revealed a male had suffered a gunshot wound.  The victim was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital before officers arrived.  It was later determined the victim has life-threatening injuries.

As of this release, Columbia Police remain on the scene processing evidence.
