Hillsdale house fire – cook at Candicci’s Restaurant suffers critical loss

Family Loses Everything in Hillsdale House Fire

HILLSDALE, MO/January 5, 2017 (STLRestaurant.News) The St. Louis County Bomb and Arson Squad are investigating a late night house fire in Hillsdale that injured three children.

Firefighters were called to the blazing home in the 6500 block of Jesse Jackson Avenue, just off of Lucas and Hunt Wednesday at 9:45 pm.  It is believed that the fire started on the back porch.  All 9 people in the home were able to get to safety but the 3 children, one being only 2-days old, sustained minor smoke inhalation.

Fire Capt. David Mitchell, of the Mid-County Fire Protection District, was on the scene and said that one of the children smelled gasoline at the back door and notified an adult.  When they opened the back door, apparently flames burst through the doorway.

The home was completely destroyed and the family lost everything.  The head of the household, Darrell Russell, is a long time employee of Candicci’s Italian Restaurant & Bar in Ballwin.  Candicci’s will holding future fundraisers and a GoFundMe account has already been set up to help the family get back on their feet.

At this time, there is no word on what may have possibly caused the fire.  For additional information, contact Candicci’s Restaurant & Bar in Ballwin at 636-220-8989.
