Grubhub Reveals Top Delivery Food Trends and New Predictions in Annual Year in Delivery Report

January 11, 2018 (STL.News) As we move into 2018 and start a New Year, it’s a great time to look back at some of the most popular trends of the prior year and put our finger on the pulse of what is making a majority of Americans tic. After all, we live in a high-speed ever-changing world where everything moves and shifts quickly. Technology is emerging faster than our institutional capacity can adapt to all the changes and in the world of social media, Facebook, Amazon, and Uber have changed the face of the global economy in just a few short years.

Another industry that seems to be changing quite swiftly is that of Online Food-Delivery. The enterprise of delivering restaurant meals directly to one’s home is experiencing rapid transformation as fresh online platforms race to capture markets and customers across America and many other countries. New online food-delivery strategies are increasing consumer’s choices and enhancing convenience, allowing customers to order from a widespread selection of restaurants with a mere click of a button on their computer or mobile phone.

According to McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), the business and economics research arm of McKinsey that provides us with a deeper understanding of the evolving global economy, the food delivery market worldwide stands at €83 billion, or 1 percent of the total food market and 4 percent of food handled through restaurants and fast-food chains. It has already progressed in most countries, with a total annual growth rate estimated at just 3.5 percent for the next five years.

McKinsey’s research provides us with some insight into the fast-changing Online Food-Delivery market but what are people actually ordering? Grubhub, the nation’s leading online and mobile food-ordering company, recently weighed in with its second annual ‘Year In Delivery’ trends analysis. Their statistics identify the trendiest delivery dishes of 2017, as well as those foods anticipated to grow in popularity this year.

America is known for its diversity and numerous cultures and it appears that we American’s continue to enjoy a wide variety of cuisines, which according to Grubhub’s latest data reflects the wide-ranging tastes of their diners. In 2017, their favorites were across-the-board with everything from the raw tuna salad known as poke to sirloin steak, and chicken fried steak to avocado toast.

  • Forecasted Foods for 2018: Order volume was analyzed for dishes that rose in popularity each month in 2017, and the monthly cumulative percentage change is the listed statistic.
