Denny Hoskins is a Republican U.S. State Senator representing the 21st District of Caldwell, Carroll, Howard, Johnson, Lafayette, Livingston, Ray, and Saline counties of Missouri. Hoskins was born and raised in the rural town of Jefferson City, Missouri. He graduated from Fatima High School in Westphalia, Missouri, and went on to study accounting at Central Missouri State University. While studying at Central Missouri State University, he worked several jobs as a farmhand, a sales associate, and a part-time accountant. He went on to receive his BSBA in Accounting and graduated Cum Laude. Upon graduating, Hoskins served in the Missouri National Guard in Independence, Missouri, and was honorably discharged in 2000.
Hoskins began his life of public service in 2008 when he was first elected to Missouri State House of Representatives to represent the 121st District. He went on to launch three consecutive reelection bids in 2010, 2012, and 2014. In 2016, after facing term limitations in the Missouri State House of Representatives, Hoskins ran for the Missouri State Senate. He was elected to the Missouri State Senate in 2016 to represent the 21st District. Hoskins used his successful election bids in the House of Representatives and his appointment to the office of Speaker Pro Tem in 2013 to find his way to the Senate floor in 2016. Running on the premise that he would advocate heavily for Missouri taxpayers due to his occupation as a CPA, Hoskins mounted a successful campaign. Assuring voters that his background as a CPA and his rural Missouri upbringing, he understood the values held by his constituents because he himself held the same values. In addition, in his position as a veteran of the National Guard, Hoskins ran on a platform of providing strong protections for veterans. In 2014, he was awarded the Legislator of the Year award by the Missouri American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Missouri Association of Veterans’ Organizations. Currently, he serves on the Missouri Veteran’s Commission.
Hoskins lives in Warrensburg, Missouri, with his family. Along with his legislative duties, Hoskins is a Certified Public Accountant. He works for a professional tax and accounting firm called Cochran Head Vick & Company; P.C. Hoskins specializes in auditing non-profit, governmental, and farming organizations and entities. He is an active member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Missouri Society of CPAs, the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce, and the Holden Chamber of Commerce. Hoskins is also an active participant in his community of Warrensburg through his passion for coaching local youth sports.
For his legislating, Hoskins has been the recipient of several awards. He was awarded Legislator of the Year from the Missouri Community Colleges Association, the County Advocate Award from the Missouri Association of Counties, the Guardian of Small Businesses from the National Federation of Independent Business, and the Friend of Agriculture award from the Farm Bureau.
Since his election to the Missouri State Senate in 2016, Hoskins has advocated for a legislative pay raise for all state politicians, protections for small businesses and taxpayers, and stronger protections and incentives for military veterans.
