CENTENE EXPANDING IN CLAYTON

Centene Expanding In Clayton

CLAYTON, MO: (STL.News) – Downtown Clayton has been approved to expand Centene’s campus and bring around 2,000 employees with it.  Phase 1 will include a 28 or 29 story building built on a parking garage and Phase 2 would include a 34 story structure with hotel, parking retail space and event areas.  Surrounding people have expressed doubts and issues with the possibility that this would crowd Clayton streets with more people and traffic but possible tax breaks for residents could help alleviate these concerns.

“You can’t always decide not to do something because you’re afraid of the future,” said Alderman Ira Berkowitz.  The last undeveloped land in Clayton has agreed upon developing the land for high-rise office, hotel, and retail space but requires zoning architectural reviews and approvals of the four phases of development.

Centene continues to be one of the largest and fastest growing companies in the Midwest region and have added over 600 people in St. Louis this year alone.  They plan to pull in around 1,000 current employees, working within the company, and additionally adding another 1,000 to its main headquarters.  Centene’s development may add space for nearly 5,000 new workers as early as 2020, but no official dates have been set and other phases could exceed those numbers by leasing out space in their building.
