California Governor Gavin Newsom Statement on Death of CAL FIRE Captain Stacy Hamilton

SACRAMENTO, CA (STL.News) – California Governor Gavin Newsom yesterday issued the following statement regarding the death of CAL FIRE Captain Stacy Hamilton:

“On behalf of all Californians, Jennifer and I extend our condolences to Captain Stacy Hamilton’s family, friends and colleagues in this difficult time.  It’s the work of brave firefighters like Stacy that keeps our communities safe and we are deeply grateful for his service.”

Captain Hamilton, of Shaver Lake, was killed in a vehicle accident this morning in Merced County.

Captain Hamilton began his career with CAL FIRE in 2006 and previously served in the United States Forest Service.  He is survived by his wife, Katie, and two teenage sons, Ian and Logan.

In honor of Captain Hamilton, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
