Border Patrol News: Del Rio Sector Border Patrol Agents Arrest Sex Offender-Mexican National Previously Deported

DEL RIO, TX (STL.News) – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rocksprings Station arrested a convicted sex offender in Rocksprings, Thursday.

On Mar. 14, Rocksprings agents arrested a 26-year-old Mexican national after he illegally entered the United States. Records checks revealed he has an extensive criminal history, including a conviction in Seattle in 2011 for rape of a child. The man was sentenced to one year in prison and is registered as a sex offender. He was most recently removed from the United States in 2018.

“Violent criminals continue to illegally cross the border to make their way further into the United States,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. “Our agents are committed to preventing these types of criminals from entering and harming our communities.”

The man faces a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – re-entry after deportation, which carries a maximum sentence up to 20 years in prison.

All individuals arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo record checks using biometrics to ensure those with criminal history or gang affiliation are positively identified.
