Boenker Hill Vineyard and Winery
BRIDGETON, MO: (STLRestaurant.News) Boenker Hill Vineyard and Winery: this has to be one of the best hidden secrets for the thousands of St. Louis’ wine lovers. Instead of those somewhat lengthy drives out to all the beautiful wineries, there’s one very unique winery located right here in the city of Bridgeton. Boenker Hill Vineyard and Winery, which opened in 2015, is 34 acres of beautiful country landscape that houses a farmhouse and barn, a beautiful butterfly garden, spectacular 600 feet hill top views, and a tremendous amount of walking grounds.
The barn, which sits on 4 acres, has undergone vast remodeling to make it ready for outdoor parties such as weddings, family gatherings, and corporate events. There’s a kitchen to support full Catering, and an inside Wine Bar and Tasting Room. The old Boenker Hill Family Farm, one of the last Missouri Centennial Farms in St. Louis County, has been in operation since the 1800’s. What began as an Indian Burial Ground for thousands of years would later become a prosperous family homestead where wheat, corn, soybeans, fruit trees produce and grapes flourished.
In 2003, upon the death of his mother, son Matthew Boenker, one of the ten children to grow up on the farm, made the decision not to sell his property, but rather hold on to it for his greater vision. And today, Matthew’s vision of re-creating the working vineyard and winery that existed on the property nearly a century ago has been a fruitful decision. Boenker Hill Vineyard and Winery hosted their first wedding in September 2014, and the vintage charm of the property continues to draw those from all over St. Louis to celebrate their love, and life together.
The Winery’s focus is on Missouri wines, and they source all of the grapes from Missouri vineyards. It’s a great way to spend a day or night away from the bustle of the city, without having to go very far at all. And for wine drinkers, that short drive can be a big plus.
