SharpShooter Pit & Grill Offering Unique BBQ Dining Experience

Affton, MO/December 30, 2017 (STL.News) – What could be better with barbecue than guns and ammo?  Not much, according to fans of SharpShooter Pit & Grill in Affton.  That’s St. Louis’ only combination target shooting range and barbecue restaurant.  Actually, this combo-business at 8135 Gravois Road may be the only full-fledged BBQ smokehouse that’s attached to a state-of-the-art, indoor gun range.  It’s also one of St. Louis’ favorite places to go for great barbecue, taking the number five spot on our customer review-based list of the Top 10 BBQ Smokehouses in St. Louis back in November. For several decades, the Brooks family has owned and operated Southside Jewelry and Loan at 8101 Gravois Road in Affton.  The jewelry store, gun and pawn shop has been a fixture in the community.  A few years ago, the current Brooks family member in charge, Keith Brooks got the bright idea to diversify his already broad business interests.  He bought an old car wash next door to the family shop.  There, in 2013, he built SharpShooter Pit & Grill and the STL SharpShooter Indoor Range.  It’s the first combination barbecue joint and shooting range in St. Louis, perhaps anywhere.

The Pit & Grill offers a whole menu of smoked meats and sides. Beside the proximity to target practice, the brisket and turkey—both smoked daily—keep bringing customers back for more.  The brisket may be the star of the show.  Sharpshooter’s pitmasters trim each brisket by hand and generously season each with their house-made rub.  After a 24 hours rest, the brisket heads to the smoker where it will spend the next 12-14 hours slow-smoking over low heat.  When it’s done, the brisket is moist, tender, and oh-so-smoky good.  But the menu doesn’t stop there.  You’ll also find smoked wings (available naked, Buffalo-style, or BBQ sauce-basted), plus pulled pork and smoked ribs, and that tender, juicy smoked turkey.  All the smoked meats are available on plates, sandwiches, and atop salads or nachos.  They’re also available for carryout (by the pound).  Available sides include the barbecue standards of coleslaw, potato salad, and baked beans—all of which get high marks from customers.  Green beans, applesauce, crinkle cut fries and sweet potato fries are also available.  They also smoke their own bacon, making their BLT and Turkey Bacon Club both elevated eating experiences.

Besides great barbecue, SharpShooter Pit & Grill gives customers the convenience of the adjacent shooting range and gun store.  Thanks to a closed-circuit television feed, diners can watch the action at the shooting range while they enjoy their meals.  Shooters can rent one of the twenty lanes at the range by the hour, buy an unlimited use day pass, or buy a year-long membership.  STL Sharpshooter also offers firearms training courses for both hobbyists and security professionals, and there’s an onsite gun and ammo shop too.  Gun rentals are available. Range member enjoy a 15-percent discount at the Pit & Grill.

In April 2017, Fox 2 News took a peek inside SharpShooter Pit & Grill for a segment called In Your Neighborhood: Affton.

SharpShooter Pit & Grill offers indoor seating for about 50, and another 20 on the patio when the weather permits.  The restaurant is open Tuesday – Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday – Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5:00 p.m.  The gun range is open seven days a week starting at 10:00 a.m. most days (9:00 a.m. on Saturdays).

The newest and largest indoor shooting range in St Louis is also one of the region’s favorite barbecue smokehouse restaurants.  SharpShooter Pit & Grill is offering some of the best barbecue and one of the most unique dining experiences in town.  No wonder it’s a customer favorite with firearms enthusiasts and barbecue lovers alike.
