Auditor Galloway releases audit of St. Clair County government

JEFFERSON CITY, MO/November 13, 2017 (STL.News) Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway today released a regularly-scheduled audit of St. Clair County, located in western Missouri. The audit received an overall rating of good, which is an improvement over the county’s prior audit, which received a rating of fair.

“Officials have made improvements in St. Clair County since their last audit, and I appreciate those efforts to better serve citizens,” Auditor Galloway said. “I encourage the county to continue this work by implementing these recommendations and strengthening procedures in several key areas.”

The audit made recommendations to improve accounting practices in the sheriff’s office and establish better limits for access to the property tax system to prevent the potential for unauthorized changes to tax records.

The report also identified concerns with data security in several county offices. The audit found there are not adequate password controls in the office of the county clerk, county collector and recorder of deeds.
