What are the final objectives of the Russian military operation?

The Kremlin said on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is preparing to send a Russian delegation to Minsk for talks with a Ukrainian team.  The decision comes after Ukrainian President Zelenskyy proposed to negotiate after both sides had been exchanging fire as Russian troops near the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.

In a short video, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, “Today I asked the 27 leaders of Europe whether Ukraine will be in NATO.  I asked directly.  Everyone is afraid, does not answer.” So, have the U.S. and NATO abandoned Ukraine?  What are the final objectives of the Russian military operation?
