Western nations hits back with sanctions for Russia’s Ukraine actions

Responding swiftly to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s order sending troops to separatist-held regions of eastern Ukraine, western leaders hit back with a tranche of sanctions Tuesday in hopes of averting a full-blown war in Europe.

The UK has announced a series of sanctions against Russia after it ordered troops into two rebel-held regions of eastern Ukraine.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says his government has taken steps to halt the approval process for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia over the crisis in Ukraine.
